By ferry: ferries depart from Laem Ngop pier every hour (although these are reduced to every two hours in the off season from May to November), operating between 07.00 and 17.00. Vehicle ferries also depart from Koh Chang centrepoint eight times a day between 07.00 and 17.30.
Both arrive on the North of the island where there are waiting taxis and minibuses for the 20-minute ride to the popular beaches. Ao Thammachat is another pier with vehicle ferries departing six times a day. The last return ferry is at 18.30.
By boat: boat timetables aren’t accurate and if you arrive after 16.00 you might miss the last boat, so staying overnight in Trat is advisable. A travel agent can sometimes arrange a combined ticket with an on site agent to take care of the transfer, but expect lots of waiting around. In all, it takes about eight hours to reach your hotel from Bangkok.
By road: you can follow the Chonburi motorway, by-passing Pattaya as you divert onto the 334 to Chantaburi and onwards to Trat. The journey takes about four to five hours and you can take your car over to Koh Chang. The roads on the island are, however, very steep in parts.
