Golf: can be enjoyed on the east side of Ubonrat Dam, the largest dam in the northeast. There are big green golf course, and many golfers come here on the weekend while their companions can try the local delicacies near the lake.
Water sports: Pattaya 2, Bang San 2 and Hat Jom Thong, famous freshwater beaches, are perfect for water sports including banana boats and water bicycle. Visitors can also enjoy relaxing atmosphere while tasting fish freshly caught fish from the lakes. The beaches are always lively during the festivals and holidays. You can also visit Kaen Nakhon Lake, a well-known lake located at the southern region of the province boasting many water activities, restaurants and entertainment.
Picnics: many locals usually go to Ubonrat Dam to enjoy a variety of food and drinks and laze around on the lawns by the big reservoir. Don’t forget to bring your umbrellas and mats in order to blend in with the residents. The sun can be pretty strong in the afternoon so it’s also a good idea to put on some sun screen and enjoy sunbathing.
Animal Villages: even though Khon Kaen does not have any safari or zoo, you can spot certain animals at the local villages. Located 50 kms south of Khon Kaen, the Tortoise Village is home to more than 2,000 tortoises and open to public.
National Parks: walking and trekking around one of many national parks in Khon Kaen is a popular activity among visitors. The most notable ones include Nam Phong National Park, boasting green forests and mountains. There are many viewpoints located in the park overlooking the lake and Khon Kaen city and Phu Pha Man National Park with lush jungle, mixed forest and a variety of caves featuring stalagmites, stalactites, and lots of bats.
