The easiest and fastest way of reaching Khao Lak is to take a flight to Phuket International Airport. The flying time from Bangkok to Phuket is about an hour. The rest of the trip can be made overland either by bus or taxi and takes another hour. It may be more convenient to use a taxi rather than a connecting bus to get from Phuket's airport to the resort of Khao Lak. There are also direct flights from Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur to Phuket. Some hotels will arrange for transfer services to and from the airport for an extra fee, but it is worth the price to avoid the inconvenience of having to queue for a taxi. Once you arrive at Surat Thani you will need to continue the journey by bus. Phuket Bus has services that are coordinated with the arrival of the train. The bus ride takes about four hours. The trains usually offer three types of ticket classes; 1st class with sleeper bunks and air-conditioning, 2nd class with air-conditioning but only seating facilities and 3rd class, which only provides seating facilities and fans in the cabins. By bus: buses to Khao Lak’s bus terminal depart from Bangkok’s Southern Bus Terminal, called Sai Tai by the locals, at Boromratchchonnai Road in Thonburi. You will need to book a ticket to Thap Lamu’s or Phang Nga bus terminal which is only five kilometres from Khao Lak. By car: one of the most convenient ways to visit Khao Lak from Phuket is to hire a car and driver there yourself, giving you the freedom to make your own itinerary.
