Activities

Activities in Khao Lak
Diving and snorkelling: there are many opportunities and great places to go diving and snorkelling at Khao Lak. The Similan and Surin Islands are the favoured diving and snorkelling destinations because of the water visibility and divers and snorkellers will be mesmerized by the beauty of the underwater world of soft and hard coral reefs and amazingly colourful fishes.
You will be tempted to dive into the enchanting waters even if you have never dived before and diving classes from beginners onwards are available, with experienced divers. The best times for these activities are between December and March.
Golfing: the Royal Navy owns a beautiful golf course at Khao Lak. It has recently opened to the public. Located in a picturesque bay, the course offers a round of 18 holes. What makes this course so unique is that some of the fairways are right beside the sea. Golfers may find it difficult to concentrate on their game as the course is not only challenging but also impresses with its backdrop of hills and mountains.
Rafting and trekking: visitors are advised to obtain the services of a guide when rafting or trekking as it quite easy to get disorientated in the thick undergrowth of the tropical forests. All the national parks at Khao Lak offer rafting and trekking opportunities that will fascinate.
Elephant trekking: sitting high on the back of the majestic yet gentle elephants you are guided through the forest and rubber tree plantations. Throughout the journey you will be amazed with the variety of wildlife including reptiles and birds. The views of the Andaman Sea in the distance are also quite breathtaking. Occasionally your elephant may suffer an itch and scratch itself against a tree.
Turtle watching: the best times for turtle watching are during November to February. During this time sea turtles and leatherback turtles make their way slowly up the shoreline, dig deep holes with enormous effort and then lay their eggs.
