Extreme sports: some Thai teenagers spend time practising their rollerblading and skate-boarding skills at the weekends at the city’s parks, which provide special spaces for these kinds of sports. The most famous place is the Red Bull Active Square on Sathorn road, where you can find many teenagers in helmets, showing of their skills.
Tennis: tennis became very popular among Thais a few years ago when Paradorn Srichapan made it big in world tennis tournaments. There are many public tennis courts in Bangkok, with the court fees being reasonable. If you come here without tennis equipment, a number of tennis shops can be easily found around Bangkok; check the sports section in the malls.
Walking and outdoor aerobics: despite the hustle and bustle in Bangkok, plenty of small public areas and parks can be found everywhere in the city. You can enjoy walking or jogging on the paths provided around the lush green gardens. If you are here in the evening, you might be bemused by the free aerobics sessions in the parks that have become quite a popular trend in Bangkok.
Working out: gym rooms can be found in almost every hotel, but if you want to go somewhere well-equipped and very professional, you can head to one of the famous fitness centres in Bangkok like California WOW or Fitness First. As Thais love to keep fit, you can even find some gyms in first-class malls.
Yoga: yoga has become a permanent obsession among Thai women. You can find many places that offer yoga classes in the city, with all kinds of yoga available including Power Yoga, Hatha Yoga and Bikram Yoga (practised in a heated room).
Golf: outer Bangkok offers an array of large, green golf courses that provide golf equipment for hire and new, efficient mini golf carts, while the city is home to many driving ranges open to the public daily. Green fees range from reasonable to incredibly expensive by Thai standards; it all depends on the prestige of the club.
