Day Trips and Excursions in Bangkok
Damnoen Saduak (Floating Market): this market is very popular with tourists. It is located in Rachaburi, about 2 hours drive from Bangkok, on the Damnoen Saduak canal, which is about 32kms long. There are many boats selling food, fruits and flowers as well as goods from every region in Thailand. The market is busy from 06:00 to around 11:00 after which it quietens down. You can take a walking tour around the market or choose to hire a boat by the hour.
The Rose Garden: an exotic, beautiful tropical park on the bank of Tachin River, located 30kms from Bangkok. Boasting a 60-acre garden with a variety of colourful flowers including roses and orchids, charming lawns, small lake and tropical gardens, the Rose Garden also features a five-star hotel fully-equipped with a big swimming pool, many restaurants, a children’s playground and a cultural show. The garden is open from 08:00 to 18:00.
Samphran Elephant Park: a 60-acre farm, home to a variety of different wild animals and thousands of crocodiles. Situated only one kilometre before you reach the Rose Garden, this place is popular among visitors, as there are many shows including crocodile-wrestling, a magic show and elephant theme shows everyday at 12:45 and 14:20, with an additional show at weekends and on holidays at 10:30. You can keep yourself amused for the whole day. It is open from 08:00 to 17:30.
Samut Prakarn Crocodile Farm: boasting over 30,000 gigantic fresh and saltwater crocodiles, this farm is located in Samut Prakan province, about 30kms from Bangkok. Apart from crocodiles, you can also see many other creatures such as trained elephants, gibbons, lions and snakes. There is a breathtaking crocodile-wrestling show every hour. Kids will also be delighted to visit the Dinosaur Museum, housing a variety of species of life-size dinosaurs and skeletons. The farm is open daily from 07:00 to 18:00.
Phra Pathom Chedi: a remarkable gold encrusted monument with a height of 127 metres. The largest Buddhist monument in the world, Phra Pathom Chedi is located in Nakhon Pathom province, about 60kms west of Bangkok. Close to the bell-shaped, orange-tiled chedi are a number of beautiful Buddha images and exquisite architecture from old times.
Mini Siam and Mini Europe: located near Pattaya, about an hour’s drive from Bangkok, this place boasts Thai and Asian and European heritages in a miniature scale of 1:25. There is a great selection of important and historical sites of different cultures and different periods including replicas of many temples, the Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower and the Parthenon. While you are here, why not also join the race at Go-karts Speedway, situated in the same compound, for some speedy fun.
