Introduction to Yasothon, Thailand

Famous for its raucous Rocket Festival that bursts onto the scene every May, Yasothon is a great travel destination for those with a zest for Thai culture and fun locals. The rest of the year this place is as quiet as it comes but in May, people from far and near bring their homemade rockets to town in daredevil bids to try and bring rain from the sky. The Rocket Festival is a great time to plan a trip here but be sure to arrange lodging in advance because Yasothon hotels typically book up at this time. The town is known for a couple of traditional handicrafts such as basketry and triangular pillows. A decent spattering of Thai restaurants and whiskey bars are on hand to keep everyone fed and watered. There’s not a great deal to do in Yasothon but the locals are friendly, offering travellers the chance to get to know the unique culture of the Isaan region that dominates northeast Thailand.
