Introduction to Udon Thani - City Centre
The city centre of Udon Thani, located in northeastern Thailand, is at the heart of one of the country's biggest and most affluent cities. During the Vietnam War, the city's current commercial airport was a Royal Thai Air Force base. Western style coffee shops and bars in the centre are a reminder of this time and several Udon Thani City Centre hotels are close to these establishments. There are also eateries and outdoor hawker stalls serving regional Isarn food as well as shopping centres including Thailand's biggest, UD Town. Several temples and compounds that contain Buddha statues are sited in the central precinct. Nong Prajak Park is a relaxing location with a lake and shaded areas. The city railway station is on the south side of the central precinct and has a number of daily services that link it with Bangkok and Nong Khai on the Laos border, 50kms away.
