Introduction to Surat Thani, Thailand
The name of the province of Surat Thani in the south of Thailand translates to the city of good people, a title King Vajiravudh first bestowed upon the capital city which shares the province’s name. Much of Thailand’s most beautiful coastline and six national parks lie within the province of Surat Thani, which also includes the scenic islands of Ko Samui, Ko Tao, Ko Nang Yuan, and Ko Phangan, among others. Most Surat Thani hotels inside the capital city are aging budget accommodations located around the city’s market area or pier. Luxury hotels in Surat Thani can be found most easily on the island of Ko Samui, one of Thailand's most popular resort areas. All of Ko Samui's beaches also include at least one lower budget hotel, but the Hat Lamai area contains the greatest amount of Ko Samui hotels in Surat Thani, which are both affordable and good quality. Ko Samui hotel rates are usually 30 to 50 per cent lower during the low season from June to November but booking in advance during the popular high season is strongly recommended.
