Introduction to Sukhothai, Thailand
The province of Sukhothai in Northern Thailand, whose name translates to 'dawn of happiness,' is where the kingdom of Siam was originally established around 800 years ago. Although much of the city's former splendour now lies in ruins, both the old city and its twin city of Si Satchanalai are designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites and revered by Thai people. The province's current capital city, also named Sukhothai, is actually 12kms west of historic old city, and most hotels in Sukhothai are guesthouses and are located around Yom River or across from Historical Park, the site of old ruins. A few luxury accommodations are also available. Si Satchanalai, the province's other main tourist attraction, is 56kms north of the provincial capital and was once equally impressive in terms of sophistication and wealth. Although Si Satchanalai has far fewer Sukhothai hotels than the province's capital, a few mid-range resorts are situated in Si Satchanalai.other spellings: sukhotai otel, sukhothai hotell, sukothai hote, hotle in sukhothai, hotes in sukotai
