Introduction to Satun, Thailand
Located on Thailand’s southwestern coast on its border with Malaysia with a predominantly Muslim population, the breathtaking forests, mountains, and beaches within the province of Satun seem worlds away from Thailand’s crowded cities. Satun’s provincial capital, also called Satun, is the main gateway to Satan’s over 80 surrounding islands, including the popular Tarutao National Park. Most Satun hotels within the city are mid-budget guesthouses and bungalows, although many hotel staff members do not speak English. The island of Koh Lipe has perhaps the widest selection of hotels in Satun, ranging from cheap tents to luxury bungalows and resorts to private accommodations. Even more Satun hotels are located on another island, Ko Tarutao, which belongs to Tarutao National Park. The park manages all Satun hotels on Ko Tarutao, which include bungalows with rooms for up to four people and tents, which the National Park office rents out but are not waterproof.
