Introduction to Prachin Buri, Thailand

Situated 135kms to the north of Bangkok, the sleepy town of Prachin Buri is a popular stop-over for travellers who are making their way to the far north of Thailand. Prachin Buri also serves as the gateway to the large and lovely Khao Yai National Park, which is located on the outskirts of the town. Home to a diverse range of Thailand's indigenous flora and fauna, the park is also home to the waterfall that was featured in the internationally popular film, The Beach. Visitors who travel here during the rainy season (May to October) will find the waterfall at its peak flow. Should they have the courage, they can launch themselves into the plunge pool below, as the main characters did in the movie. Although the park features a couple of camping grounds, those who prefer more comfortable accommodations can stay in any of the Prachin Buri hotels located in the town.
