Introduction to Phang Nga - Koh Yao Noi
The name of the Thai island of Koh Yao Noi translates to 'little long island' in English. This tranquil island situated halfway between Phuket and Krabi in Phang Nga Bay may not be particularly little or long, but it has remained one of the most unspoilt islands in Thailand. There are no Koh Yao Noi hotels within walking distance of the island's main pier, so visitors must take tuk-tuk (motorised rickshaws) to arrive at the secluded beach retreat of their choice. Scooters and bicycles are other popular ways to explore this island with mangrove trees and rice paddies on its west side, rocky beaches on its east side, and mountains in its centre. Apart from a few modern amenities such as internet access, an ATM, and mobile telephone connections, Koh Yao Noi has remained relatively unchanged during the past 20 years. The few restaurants on the island provide perfect opportunities to sample authentic local cuisine.
