Koh Kho Khao is an excellent destination for those visitors looking for a taste of unspoilt Thailand. Located in Phang Nga Province on the Andaman coast, this island attracts a mixture of tourists, from scuba divers to those looking for a peaceful and romantic retreat. Most Koh Kho Khao hotels are located in the far south of the island, which can be reached by car ferry from the mainland. Less than 1,000 people reside on this laid-back island; they tend to be concentrated in the island's three main villages. Most travellers' amenities can be found near the arrivals pier, but tourism is generally low key. Besides enjoying the scenic beach, guests are able to visit some of the island's mangroves, which can be explored by using the island's boardwalks and cycle paths. Some inland waterways are suitable for kayaking, while Koh Kho Khao also has a couple of small waterfalls which are worth a look. By air, travellers can fly to Phuket or Krabi, where they can hire a vehicle or take a bus to nearby Takua Pa. Here, onward transportation to the ferry terminal is available.
