Narathiwat is situated on the banks of the Bang Nara River, travelling by road a distance of around 1500kms south of Bangkok. Unlike many of Thailand's southern provinces, Narathiwat continues to maintain its rural appeal. Wooden buildings and shop fronts by the riverfront area add a charm to the capital of Narathiwat. There are several hotels in Narathiwat, though most cater to low to mid-range budgets. Often travellers to the area use Narathiwat hotels are a stopover when heading to the areas of Hat Yai. It is a great place for cyclists either heading north or south bound, and hotels in Narathiwat provide a popular resting spot for cyclists as well. Stay longer than a night and you will experience the southern hospitality of the Thai’s, as well as a variety of Muslim dining options. Some hotels in Narathiwat maintain a set evening curfew for safety reasons, though the incidents regarding security have happened in the outskirts of the capital where travellers normally do not visit.
