Introduction to Lamphun, Thailand
Lamphun is a quiet and pleasant province known for its rich history. Located just 26kms from Chiang Mai, Lamphun has been established since the 9th century and has ancient buildings and temples around the area. Once famously ruled by Chama Thewi, the Mon queen, during a several hundred-year dynasty, Lamphun was later conquered by the Khmer, and then claimed in 1218 when King Mangrai incorporated it with his Lanna kingdom of the north. Old monuments fill the area, along with moats filled with beautiful lotus. Stay in hotels in Lamphun to visit the temples of the area, such as the temple Wat Phra That Hariphunchai. The national museum is easily accessible from any of the hotels in Lamphun, either by foot or by local transport, and offers a look at Lamphun's history. During your stay in the Lamphun hotels be sure to check out the nearby quaint town of Saraphi, which is known for its bamboo handicrafts and furniture and basketry.other spellings: lamphunhotel, lamphoon otel, lumphun hotell, lampun hote, hotles in lumphun
