Introduction to Krabi - Had Yao
Known to many as Long Beach, Had Yao is one of the most idyllic beaches in the south of Thailand. Holidaymakers flock here during the high season in order to enjoy the famous views of the Ao Nang cliff face and Jum Mountain. Had Yao hotels are easily accessible from Krabi International Airport, which caters to regular flights from Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Koh Samui. The beach is just 14 miles from the airport by taxi or pick-up truck. The area has retained a traditional feel, unlike the more commercialised parts of Krabi. In fact, it's not unusual to see local people earning their living by farming shrimp or growing rice. For a taste of traditional life, it is well worth visiting the Tuesday and Friday afternoon market where a range of exotic fruit and vegetables are on sale. The beach is less than a mile long but perfect for a romantic stroll, especially around sunset.
