How to get there
Guests arriving via Koh Samui will find the quickest way to Koh Tao is by Bangkok Airways direct from Bangkok, Krabi, Phuket, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and a number of other airports. Upon arrival at Koh Samui, guests can arrange transfers at the airport information desk. There is no airport on Koh Tao Map itself, so connections from Samui can only be made by boat. Guests could take the 1-hour voyage either by Lomprayah Catamaran or on the Seatran Discovery which leave twice daily for Koh Tao. There are other boat transfers available, but these are by far the fastest and best options. Regardless of which option guests choose, the last boat leaving Koh Samui for Koh Tao is at 12 midday and the last catamaran leaving Koh Tao is at 3 pm daily. Any onward flight bookings/reservations should ideally be scheduled for after 6 pm to allow for any unforeseen delays. Transfers from the piers to the airport are readily available for a minimal fee and in some cases are included in the catamaran price. Those arriving via Chumporn should note that the transfer from Bangkok to Chumphon can be made very simply either by train or comfortable VIP bus. Both options can easily be booked in Bangkok or online. Again, the Lomprayah Catamaran offers two trips and the Seatran Discovery offers one trip to Chumphon daily and the price includes the transfer to Koh Tao. Another option is the night boat via MV.Talaysub which leaves Chumporn for Koh Tao every Tuesday and Saturday night at 11 pm. Travellers from Phuket and Krabi typically pass through Suratthani, a long and at times uncomfortable journey in a minibus. Boat options are very limited and the only direct boat is a little dubious even at the best of times. This night boat leaves Suratthani every night at 11 pm. It is not recommended to arrive in Koh Tao via this route but rather to fly from either Phuket or Krabi directly to Koh Samui and follow the above directions from there.
