The Temple of the Big Buddha (or as known by locals as Wat Phra Yai) hosts a 12 metre tall Buddha statue built in 1972. The Big Buddha is located on a small island and linked to the mainland by a bridge. Tourists must wear proper clothes if they plan to visit this temple (or any other temples). Beachwear and flip-flops are strictly prohibited. The Temple of the Big Buddha is also a meditation centre. From many points in the area it is notable and forms an icon for the island.
