Introduction to Koh Samui - Bangrak Beach
Bangrak Beach, also known as Big Buddha Beach for the large Buddha statue which has overlooked the beach for more than 30 years, is a quiet village and beach on the north coast of the Thai island of Koh Samui. Although Chaweng and Lamai remain Koh Samui's most popular beaches, Bangrak Beach hotels provide more peaceful alternatives to the island's more crowded resorts. Most accommodation is in bungalow resorts and larger homes suitable for those wishing to stay for longer time periods. Those who do wish to participate in the vibrant nightlife of Chaweng, however, only have to travel 15 minutes, and there is frequent transportation between the two Koh Samui communities by small night taxis known as songthaew. Bangrak Beach itself, however, also contains growing numbers of shops, bars, restaurants, and other forms of entertainment, but the long sandy beach itself remains uncrowded and tranquil. The waters here are calm and safe for children to swim in.Visit our Koh Samui Travel Guide
