Set on a beautiful bay overlooking the smaller island of Koh Phan Ngan, Koh Samui's Bang Por Beach is as popular with your average holidaymaker as it is with a rising tide of celebrity visitors. Unlike backpacker-orientated areas of this tropical island, this northern coast resort is quiet with an increasing focus on healthy spas and detox centres that feel a far cry from the Full Moon parties. The robust breeze on this part of the island combined with the spectacular sunsets from the eastern end of the five-mile long stretch of sand further add to the relaxing ambiance here. The rise in upmarket visitors has prompted a similar elevation in the standard of restaurants along the seafront, which serve up a fresh array of seafood with a familiar, spicy Thai flavours. Bang Por Beach hotels are steadily rising in quality, with a number of resorts now available. But this doesn't mean all the beach bungalows have completely disappeared.
