Introduction to Koh Samet, Thailand
The backdrop beach escape for residents of Bangkok has long been Koh Samet, a lovely little island with powdery sand, clean water and nice array of amenities. The most developed and popular beaches are along the eastern coast, separated by little coves or rocky headlands. Diamond Beach, a kilometre-long stretch of crystalline sand, is where most tourists head as it has lots of Koh Samet hotels and water sports like banana boat rides and jet-skiing. The intriguingly-shaped boulders of Ao Hin Khok beach are another highlight on the island, and for those who wish to escape the crowds, Ao Phrao beach is a wonderfully quiet location far from the nightlife scene. There is some decent scuba diving at Koh Kudi, Koh Thalu and Koh Kham, tiny deserted islets within minutes of Koh Samet. While not a huge party destination, Haad Sai Kaew and Ao Phai, two of the livelier beaches on the island, have plenty of bars. Visit our Koh Samet Travel Guide
