Introduction to Chiang Rai - Mae Suay
Chiang Rai is famous for being the gateway into Burma and Laos as well as the location of the highly popular 'Golden Triangle' region. Found in Northern Thailand, it is a must-visit on travel itineraries for its many attractions. Mae Suay hotels can be used as stepping-stones to the hill tribe communities of the north. Villages that can be visited from these establishments include the Mai Sai hill tribe village and the Akha village, with visits to both highly recommended. Mae Suay is not far from Fang, which is known for its 50 hot springs and worth spending a day at. Also worth visiting is Namtok Khun Kon Forest Park, which is where Chiang Rai's highest waterfall, Khun Ken, can be seen. The park also offers superb hiking.
