Introduction to Chiang Mai - Mae Ping River
The Mae Ping River is the longest and most important in the northern Thai province of Chiang Mai. Although the Mae Ping River is 569kms long and its source is situated in Chiang Mai province's northernmost part in mountains close to Chiang Dao, the vast majority of Mae Ping River hotels are located on the opposite end of the river, which flows through the city of Chiang Mai itself. Cruises along the Mae Ping River rank among Chiang Mai's most popular tourist activities, and these vessels depart from the Wat Chaimongkol pier about once per hour. Many cruises also include stops at private gardens where visitors are free to enjoy drinks, fruit dishes, and local herbs. Evening Mae Ping River cruises are also widely available and many cruise companies even supply karaoke microphones to their passengers.
