Wat Chedi Luang is one of the many temples in the Old City and certainly the most important, with its 42-metre high ruined chedi, which once topped off at a lofty 92 metres before an earthquake felled it in 1545. Adjacent to this is the impressive Wat Phan Tao, which is younger but constructed entirely of teak, right down to the nails.
