Introduction to Chiang Mai - Huay Kaew
Chiang Mai's Huay Kaew is located in the northern part of this historic city in northern Thailand. It is a young part of the city, being home to a large university. The roads on either side of the main thoroughfare are lined with cute shops, cafes, hairdressers and restaurants, catering mostly to the young student crowd. The Chiang Mai University campus is lush and green, and fun to explore. At the book store here, visitors can buy university logo goods, with the university logo being an elephant. The main attraction in this area is the zoo and aquarium. Adjacent to the zoo, visitors will find the Queen Sirikit Foundation complex, with a supermarket, cafe and shop selling exquisite handicrafts. All purchases go towards helping minority hill tribes. Further along Huay Kaew Road is a waterfall and park, a great place to cool off. There are a few Huay Kaew hotels to choose from along the main road, with smaller guest houses dotting the lanes which radiate off from the trendy Nimmanhaemin Road, a favourite night spot.Visit our Chiang Mai Travel Guide
