Introduction to Chiang Mai - Doi Angkhang
Chiang Mai's Doi Angkhang is one of the most beautiful parts of northern Thailand and home to the Royal Doi Angkhang Research Station, an agricultural research area. It is about a three-hour drive from Chiang Mai, up winding and twisting mountain roads reaching about 1,300m in height. Even during the hot summer month of April, it can be cool up in the mountains, so make sure you dress warmly. In the winter, it can be outright chilly. Visitors will find great produce, including unusual items such as plums and grapes, here. The research station is well worth exploring, with its acres of orchards and farmland. There are some fantastic Doi Angkhang hotels to choose from, many of them resorts clustered near the agricultural research station. The main attractions here are natural and there are plenty of good hikes and walks to be enjoyed. It is also possible to visit the nearby Burmese border village.Visit our Chiang Mai Travel Guide
