The capital city of Bangkok is known for its diversity, with each district boasting a different atmosphere and characteristics. While often overlooked by first time visitors to the city, the district of Ratchathewi is a great place to use as a base, as there are plenty of amenities for visitors here, including a wide selection of Ratchathewi hotels. The area is perhaps best known for its vibrant nightlife scene, and the famous Calypso Cabaret can be found here. Situated inside the Asia Hotel, this is one of the best places in Bangkok to watch a colourful transvestite show, and two performances are held here each evening. Lovers of live music will want to check out the tiny bars that can be found along Coco Walk, while the nearby Rock Pub, which is shaped like a castle, hosts rock bands most nights of the week. Those who like to shop until they drop will find a large number of huge shopping centres within a short walk of Ratchathewi, including MBK, Siam Discovery Center and Paragon.
