Introduction to Bangkok - Don Muang
Don Muang is the area home to the old international airport of Bangkok, located in the northern part of the capital. The airport is still functional and has now been relegated to domestic connections and budget airlines. Facilities here are limited but include eateries and ATMs. The main airport hub for Bangkok is now Suvarnabhumi Airport, about a 45-minute car ride away. Don Muang hotels are all located along the Don Muang Tollway, which leads straight to the airport. There are not many attractions in this area, but rather it is a gateway into Bangkok and its surrounding areas. From the airport, it is easy to get into the city centre via taxi or bus. On the way is the large IMPACT Arena and convention centre. It hosts a range of events throughout the year, including industrial fairs, motor shows, Disney on Ice, sporting events and much more. Further towards the city is the world-famous Jatujak Market. It is open every Saturday and Sunday, and is home to over 10,000 stalls and shops offering an amazing shopping experience.
