Taipei Travel Guide - Getting Around

Road: although Taipei has an excellent road system it can be confusing for those who do not read Chinese as there are no signs in English. Traffic is also heavily congested and there is little parking available. Taipei has a very comprehensive bus network system with more than 300 bus lines. Unfortunately, many of the bus drivers don’t speak English which can make travel on them difficult.
Train: the rail system is operated by the government which manages routes across virtually every city on the island. Taipei has two major train stations: Taipei Train Station in the city centre and Songshan Station in the eastern part of the city.
MRT (Mass Rapid Transit): is very well-organized and there are seldom any delays. There are six different lines operating: the Danshui line starts from NTU Hospital to Danshui; the Muzha line starts from Zhongshan Junior High School to Taipei Zoo; the Nangang /Banqiao line from Kunyang to Xinpu; the Xindian line starts from the Xindian and ends at NTU Hospital; the Zhonghe line from Dingxi to Nanshijiao and the Xiaonanmen from Hsimen to C.K.S. Memorial Hall. Maps are available at all stations and all staff members are very helpful.
