Introduction to Taipei - Datong
This is one of the older districts of Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. Datong is the old Japanese colonial area of the city and was at one time a commercial hub for Taipei business. That has changed as Taipei has developed to become a sprawling centre of commerce. Hotels in Taipei are geared towards this commercial business and there is just about every major hotel chain operating. But in the smaller communities such as Datong, there are only moderate lodgings. These are located around the old market area, where there is still some activity, particularly the Ningxia Night Market. Datong has contemporary and history museums as well as the Confucius Temple and the Xiahai City God temple. It’s a vibrant and interesting area of Taipei which can be reached on the Metro Orange Line, or the Red Line. Due to the city being slightly away from the centre, many things are a little cheaper here such as accommodation and eating out.Visit our Taipei Travel Guide
