Introduction to Nantou - Sitou
Sitou is a large area of forest located in the heart of Taiwan. It attracts visitors because of its cool climate and array of outdoor activities. This Nantou forest is well known for its tall trees, some of which are considered sacred by the local population. It is particularly popular with nature lovers and hikers, and has the only elevated ecological walkway in the whole of Taiwan. This walkway stands 180 metres above the ground. Those who choose to navigate its path will find themselves standing among the tree tops. Near to the main forest area are two towns, Lugu and Jhushan, which are renowned for their tea and bamboo, respectively. There is a museum dedicated to the culture of tea in the area and a bamboo tunnel called Daanmegntsung, both of which are popular with visitors. Sitou hotels are growing in number and improving in service as the area becomes more tourist-orientated.
