Introduction to Kenting - Hengchun Town
Kenting's Hengchun Town sits peacefully on the edge of Kenting National Park and is the place where most visitors enter the national park. Tragically, a large earthquake recently struck the town, badly damaging many of its historical buildings. It is surrounded by attractive walls and visitors are able to climb up the walls' East Gate, which offers attractive views of the town. The atmosphere inside the walls is pleasant and there are plenty of vendors selling fruit and Taiwanese snacks. A large day market dominates the town centre, giving tourists a chance to buy something authentically Taiwanese. There is spectacular scenery surrounding the town, which sits on the edge of the national park and is overlooked by Guanshan and Dajianshan mountains. It is possible to hike among these peaks. Hengchun Town hotels are usually quite modest and fit in with the easy-going attitude of the area.
