Things to do in Taiwan
Kaohsiung - explore Kening National Park
The Kenting National Park was created in 1977 in the south of Taiwan to preserve the natural fauna and flora of the region from invasive farming practices. The park is over 33,000 hectares in size and includes coral reefs, forest and mountains meaning there is something for everyone. It is also one of the most popular sites in Taiwan for domestic and overseas tourists.Taichung - take a trip to Ali Mountain and the mountain railway
Ali Mountain is not one mountain but a series of 18 hills with the highest of these being Tower Hill. Ali Mountain is probably the best place in the country to see a sunrise and the best location in the area is at the top of Zhu Hill. Once you have seen the sunrise take a trip on the spectacular Forest Railway as it winds its way through 4 different climatic zones over its 72km journey including tropical and tundra.Taipei - appreciate and grounds and art treasures of the National Palace Museum
The National Palace Museum in Taipei contains one of the most important collections of ancient Asian art in the world including paintings, calligraphy, ceramics, jades and bronzes, some of which date back over 3,500 years. The museum also has beautiful gardens for you to relax in after your day of exploring Asian art and culture. The museum is open every day from 08.30 to 18.30 with extended hours during the summer.Taipei - see traditional performing arts at the Taipei Eye
Take a step back in history and enjoy culture at the same time by visiting the TaipeiEYE and taking in one of their shows. There have been cultural shows in Taipei since 1915 with the theatre moving to its current location in 2002. Unlike other shows the cast interact directly with the audience before and after their performance. To make the audience’s comprehension of what they are seeing more enjoyable there are simultaneous translations into Chinese, English and Japanese.Introduction to Taiwan
The early settlers of Taiwan, people of Malay-Polynesian descent, settled in the low-lying coastal plains and the island Pakan. Since these early times, a number of people of different ethnicities, race and religion have either invaded Taiwan or chosen to settle there because of its rich farming land and natural resources. The early settlers moved up into the hills and mountains to avoid the confrontation and were called the 'mountain people'.Visit our Taiwan Travel Guide
