The early settlers of Taiwan, people of Malay-Polynesian descent, settled in the low-lying coastal plains and the island Pakan. Since these early times, a number of people of different ethnicities, race and religion have either invaded Taiwan or chosen to settle there because of its rich farming land and natural resources. The early settlers moved up into the hills and mountains to avoid the confrontation and were called the ‘mountain people’.
