Introduction to Palmyra - City Centre
Palmyra is considered to be the only tourist town in Syria, with huge numbers of visitors flocking here to see the iconic Temple of Bel. Visitors shouldn't miss the town's other ruins either, which are all within easy walking distance of each other. However, visitors who would like to preserve energy can either ride a camel or join one of the many tour buses for the right price. The best time to take a camel ride is at sunset. Palmyra City Centre hotels are well-located for visiting the ruins, which are just 10 minutes' walk away. These hotels cater to a range of tourists, from backpackers to travellers looking for luxury accommodation. Most travellers get here from Damascus by bus, alighting at the city's Harasta terminal. Buses tend to depart every hour in either direction. Travellers should make sure they bring enough cash to the city as there are no ATMs in Palmyra.
