Introduction to Latakia - Beach
Latakia is a bustling port city on the Syrian coast that is famed for its pretty beaches and liberal outlook. Public beaches are located to the south of the port, in areas such as Al Siwar and near South Corniche Park. Swimming here is safe enough, but much cleaner beaches can be found to the north of the port, such as Cote d'Azur Beach. Some of the beaches are owned by private resorts and allow non-residents access for a small fee. Besides swimming, jet-skiing and waterskiing are among the most popular activities. Afamia Beach is the closest northern beach to the city centre, at six kilometres away. Here, guests can either stay at the private resort or rent cabins in the more crowded public area. Accommodation on the northern beaches offers easy access to Latakia Sports City, which hosts the annual Al-Mahaba Festival.
