The Old Town, on the bank of the River Limmat, is the main place to head after dark, with a range of cafes and bars to be found down the small streets such as Oberdorfstrasse and Niederdorfstrasse. The range includes the slightly seedier side of nightlife with strip clubs and cheap hotels. The area tends to be at its liveliest from Thursday to Saturday.
There are continually new additions to the bar scene here with new bars opening all the time, and generally they stay open until 02:00 in the winter, extending to 04:00 in the summer. The Zurich West area which has recently been redeveloped is becoming increasingly popular as a trendy hangout with lots of stylish restaurants, bars and dance clubs.
For cultural night life, you’ll find Zurich an excellent destination with a world renowned orchestra as well as an opera company and a number of theatres. The Zurich Opera can be found performing at the Opernhaus and is perhaps the most famous of Zurich’s arts groups. For a great classical concert make your way to the Tonhalle where the Zurich Tonhalle performs.
You’ll also find plenty of other live music options here. The Moods Jazz Club is a popular place with a good atmosphere and is successful in attracting some of the world’s best Jazz musicians to entertain.
