Landesmuseum: the Swiss National Museum is one of the country’s most impressive, giving you a thorough education in Swiss history and culture, with displays dating back to pre-historic times. Despite its well known ‘neutral’ status, there is still a considerable display of weapons and armour from 08:00 to 18:00.
As you might expect, there is an area dedicated to Swiss clock making, as well as a good collection of religious art. The oldest artefacts here date back to the 4th century BC and there are also large displays of Roman clothes.

This feast continues with pieces from Picasso, Rembrandt, and Rubens and there are also some interesting sculptures dating to the middle ages.

Kunsthaus Zurich: another haven for art lovers, Kunsthaus Zurich has a strong focus on 19th and 20th century work and has a reputation for being one of the most sophisticated art galleries in the world, with an impressive collection and some imaginative lighting. You’ll find most of the world’s great artists represented here and there is a good range of styles to enjoy.
Clock and Watch Museum: was opened by Theodor Beyer in 1970 and has displays here dating back to 1400 BC. The museum is in the basement of the Beyer watch shop and there is a wide range of items displayed here from sundials to grandfather clocks and the most modern watches of today. It’s certainly an interesting place and located on Zurich’s premier shopping street makes it a handy break from shopping.

University of Zurich Archaeological Collection: if you’re interested in archaeology you’ll find this museum fascinating. There is a large section on Etruscan culture, as well as some interesting information on Egyptian death rites. One of the most interesting areas is the Egyptian mummy and statues of Egyptian gods and there is also the ubiquitous range of Roman and Greek vases, tools and other artefacts.

There is also a modern media section with some coffee-related films which can be viewed on the large screen. The exhibitions change regularly and the museum is well worth a visit.
