Zurich Travel Guide

Introduction

Overview & Introduction to Zurich
Recent surveys claimed Zurich residents to have the best quality of life in the world and visitors here will also find it a good place to spend some time. For cultural tourism, Zurich has an excellent range of museums and art galleries.
Landesmuseum (the Swiss National Museum) gives you a good understanding of the history of Switzerland, while Kunsthaus Zurich with its focus on 19th and 20th century art is a haven for art lovers.
Within the city, the 9th century church of Fraumunster and Grossmunster with its imposing twin towers is a must-see here. Swiss food may not be the most famous in the world, but there is a good range of international restaurants here, although you should certainly try a Swiss rosti or traditional cheese fondue. Zurich isn’t really the place for a wild night out, but there is a good opera, theatre and music scene.
There is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area, the town of Winterthur, just 20kms north of the city, is considered one of the best arts, cultural and music centres in Switzerland and is a very pleasant town to stroll around.
