Similarly there are good train services and the main railway station is in the city centre. Long-distance buses only go as far as Zurich’s suburbs, so a short train ride is also required. Driving is another option and motorways are of a good standard in this part of Europe.
By air: Zurich’s Kloten International Airport, situated just 11kms north of the city centre, is also the largest airport in Switzerland and the major gateway into the country. There are flights arriving here from all over Europe and further a field from Asia and North America, with Air France, British Airways, Emirates, KLM, Lufthansa, Qantas, and Singapore Airlines among those providing services.
By rail: as you might imagine, the Swiss Railway network is extremely efficient and stations and trains tend to be extremely clean. There are train services linking Zurich with Basel, Bern, Geneva and Lugano within Switzerland and also a number of trains to other cities in Europe.
There are a number of trains each day arriving here from Paris Gare de L’Est. From Munich there are two trains daily. All train services terminate at Zurich Hauptbahnhof station. For Swiss domestic services, express or inter-city trains are the quickest, with ‘regionalzug’ trains usually being localised services with more stops.
By bus: bus travel is probably the least convenient route into the city, since buses here only go as far as Zurich’s outlying suburbs, from where you have to transfer to the train. There are however plenty of services from destinations all over Europe, so if you don’t mind the extra train ride it’s certainly a viable option.
