Zurich Travel Guide
Winterthur: is located in the Toss Valley, 20kms north of Zurich and is well worth a visit if you have time during your stay. Winterthur has a reputation for being one of the best cultural and music centres in Switzerland. The town is small enough to be explored on foot and there is even a well sign-posted walking tour that will take you through all the important sites and architecture of the town.
There is also a thriving art scene and a wonderful atmosphere that makes this a good excursion. There are trains every 20 minutes from Zurich’s main Hauptbahnhof station and the journey to Winterthur takes just 15 minutes.
Jungfraujoch: one of the most popular day trips from Zurich is into the Bernese Oberland where you can enjoy some stunning scenery and see the largest glacier in the country. You can take a train ride from Lauterbrunnen to the highest train station in Europe at 3,454m (11,333ft).
With the stunning mountainous views from Mount Monch, Eiger, and Jungfrau and pretty alpine villages, this is considered by many some of the most stunning scenery in Switzerland. There are a number of tour companies who can organise one day bus trips, or alternatively you can take a train from Zurich to Jungfraujoch in a little over four hours.
There are some good restaurants by the lake and with its small narrow streets, it’s a great place to stroll around. Rapperswil can be reached from Zurich on the S-Bahn and the journey takes less than an hour.
