Swimming: in addition to the many public swimming pools, Lake Lucerne is a popular place to take a swim when the weather is good. The water is clear and clean as it is supplied by a number of mountain springs. The Lido (Lake Beach) is the best place to head to.
Hiking: if you want to explore father afield, there are miles of hiking paths in the surrounding mountains. All of the trails are clearly marked and printed guides and maps are available from the tourist information offices.
Shopping: if the thought of exercise is not for you, then take a stroll around some of the many good shops and markets. The two main shopping areas are along Pilatusstrasse and in the Old Town. Market days are Tuesday and Saturday mornings. As with the rest of Switzerland, there are some fine jewellers and chocolate shops as well as the normal handicrafts and souvenir shops.
