By air: Geneva Cointrin International Airport is a significant facility in the region, serving close to ten million passengers every year, with flights arriving from all over the world as well as domestic locations. The airport is an important hub for easyJet and also for Swiss International Airlines. Other airlines operating services here include Air France, American Airlines, Alitalia, Qantas and Singapore Airlines.
The airport is located just 5kms north of the city centre and is a slick modern airport with all the facilities and services you would expect. The airport has excellent transport links to the city, with bus, train and taxi options readily available.
Geneva’s main railway station is Gare de Cornavin and facilities here include a newsagents, bureau de change and post office. There are also regular services to and from other destinations in Switzerland such as Zurich and Bern, as well as a direct link to the airport.
By car: Switzerland’s location in central Europe makes it easily accessible by car and the roads here are of an excellent standard. The same can be said of its bordering countries of France, Austria, Italy and Germany, so driving to Geneva is a straightforward and viable option.
By bus: Geneva is on the Eurolines bus network, making it accessible from hundreds of destinations around Europe. The Eurolines services are generally efficient and London is around 17 hours away, with Barcelona 10 hours. TPG (Geneva Public Transport) provide services from a number of French towns including Archamps and Thoiry. All international bus services arrive in Geneva at Place Dorciere.
By ferry: if you are already in Switzerland and enjoying some of the places on Lake Geneva, such as Montreux, Lausanne or Vevey, then you have the options of taking the ferry to the city. This is generally used more as a tourist service than a public transport option, but the Swiss Lake Steamer offer routes every day during the summer. Ferries port at three place in Geneva; Jardin Anglais for the left bank and for the right bank at Paquis and Mont Blanc.
