Driving is also an option with plenty of car hire firms about, but not necessarily recommended and you should familiarise yourself with the parking regulations.
Bus and tram: the slick and efficient network of buses and trams are provided by Transports Publics Genevois (TPG). There are ticket machines at all bus and tram stops and you cannot board a bus or tram without a validated ticket. There are a range of different ticket types available, including those that allow unlimited use within one hour.
Car: the roads in Geneva are universally in good condition and traffic congestion is not too bad in comparison to other European cities. For some, this makes driving here a good option. However, others might find the somewhat complicated one way systems and parking rules that have three different colour markings to advise how long you can park for, as just far too much hassle.
If you do decide to drive you’ll find plenty of car hire options, but note that you will need to get a parking disc from a police station and that roads in the old town have special low speed limits. The city’s major car parks can be found at Rue Henri Dunant, Rue du Mont-Blanc and Place de Cornavin.
