Chillon Castle: located near to Montreux on the short of Lake Geneva, you’ll find the magnificent Chillon Castle well worth a visit. The castle is made up of 25 separate buildings that over the years were connected until they formed a single castle.
Lord Byron’s pœem ‘The Prisoner of Chillon’ popularised the castle in modern culture and it’s also featured in the Henry James novella, Daisy Miller. The castle has been dated back to the 11th century and was home to the Counts of Savoy from the 12th century. Today there is a museum display some interesting artefacts, and it’s a pleasant place to spend a few hours.
It takes place every year in July. Aside from the Jazz festival you’ll find the setting here quite spectacular with some great walks along the lake.
Lausanne: situated above the Lake, some 50kms northeast of Geneva, Lausanne is a popular place to visit on a day trip. There is a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere here with a range of pretty squares and attractive streets.
