Golf: there are some good golf courses within the Geneva area, although as is the case with so many things in Switzerland, prices here are relatively expensive and probably only the really keen golfer will want to play. The Golf Club de Geneve is said to be one of the best courses, located just to the northeast of the city.
The 18-hole course is only open from March to December, and is a nice course to play with some attractive scenery. It should be noted that at Geneva’s golf courses, non-members usually require an invitation to play.
At other times of the summer season you’ll see plenty of people slowly rowing a boat around the lake. There are a number of places to rent rowing boats around the lake and on a nice summer day this is a very pleasant experience.
Skiing: the winter brings the snow and with it, the ski season. Geneva is well located for a number of top class ski resorts both in France and in Switzerland.
Biking: you don’t have to go far out of the city to find some great cycling country. There are many cycle paths to be found both around the lake and in forests and vineyards in the outskirts of town. The really keen will find the challenging hill climbs, such as Bernex Hill and you can also take your passport and cross the French border.
Shopping: the city is dotted with fashion boutiques, impressive high-class shopping malls, and plenty of shops selling chocolate, jewellery and of course Swiss army knives.
