Winter sport: Switzerland is undoubtedly one of the best places in the world for skiing and Bern is a good base if you want to explore some of the resorts. Interlaken is only an hour away and other famous resorts such as Murren, Gstaad and Wengen can also be visited. Visitors can choose from skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing or ice skating.
Cycling: Bern is a small city so renting a bike is a great way of seeing some of the attractions. There are some good cycling paths and the more adventurous might want to take a trip up some of the nearby hills, where you will be rewarded with wonderful views of the city and mountains.
The bend around the old town is more difficult and should only be attempted by strong swimmers. There are also a few public pools close to the river, which are free of charge and have showers.
Park: one of the best places to relax in the area is at the Gurten, just outside of the city centre. This beautiful park has some wonderful views looking towards the Bernese Oberland from one side of the hill and a view across the city from the other side. Apart from enjoying the peaceful setting, there are plenty of easy hiking paths to explore.
