Introduction to Zurich - Egerkingen
Egerkingen is a picturesque Swiss town 50kms west of Zurich. It features archetypal chalets and colourful churches surrounded by pristine countryside and mountain ridges. It is a transport interchange, with the junction of the A1 and A2 motorways nearby as well as a railway station with services to Zurich. Visitors using Egerkingen hotels as a holiday base will discover there are hiking trails in the district that traverse the locality. In the town itself, the Gaupark shopping centre contains around 60 specialist shops and cafes which serve gourmet dishes and tasty desserts. The centre also stages an Oktoberfest that coincides with the more famous one in Munich. Restaurants in the town are ambient and offer traditional fare such as fondu (bread dipped in a cheese sauce) and rosti (fried, grated potatoes). There are no museums in Egerkingen but four kilometres away in Olten, the Historisches Museum offers great displays and relics which document regional heritage.
