Introduction to Zernez, Switzerland

Inn district's Zernez is a convenient stop on roads-trips between east Switzerland and neighbouring Italy and Austria. Located in Graubunden canton, the municipality is the gateway and the site of the visitor centre of the Swiss National Park, the only one of its kind in the country. Visitors to the park, which spans nearly 70 square miles, must stick to the designated roadways, one of which takes drivers over the Fuorn Pass and all the way to Italy. Within the municipality itself are a number of Zernez hotels and heritage sites, some of which are of national significance. The Baroque Wildenberg Castle, today serving as the town hall, and the 17th century Baroque Reformed Church, with its Romanesque bell tower, are among the most visit-worthy sites. Other architectural styles can be seen throughout town, from the Gothic structure of St Sebastian Chapel to the medieval design of Morenturm tower. Zernez is connected hourly by rail to Pontresina, Tarasp and Scuol.
