Introduction to Welschenrohr, Switzerland
The Thal district municipality of Welschenrohr has a history as a hub for the manufacturing of watches. This tradition took a nosedive in the late 1960s, an event that caused the village to turn its attentions to fine mechanics. The community sees little in the way of tourism, but Welschenrohr hotels are on hand for visitors en route to Balsthal (to the east) or Moutier (to the west), both of which are connected to the village by road. The village itself is nestled in the Jura Mountains, with its centre marked by a pretty square. Radiating out from this square are the village church and the closely-packed buildings that make up the unplanned dwellings. Once having explored the area, most visitors make the short drive to Balsthal to take in its Swiss heritage site of Neu-Falkenstein Castle. Solothurn sits to the south and is the nearest major city. Here, visitors can take in numerous Baroque buildings and museums before returning to the tranquility of Welschenrohr. other spellings: welschenrohrhotels, welscenrohr hotell, walschenrohr otel, welzchenrohr hote
